Uber Eats are Thieves

Andrew Hanse - Uber Eats

My wife and I are big users of Uber Eats. That was until yesterday, July 17th, 2022. Let me explain what happened.

We placed an order for some groceries from Spud Shed to be delivered to our apartment. We have done this a number of times. I was at home waiting for the delivery. We got a message to say our order had been delivered. No one called the doorbell, no phone call, which is what usually happens, just a pop-up message on the app. So I head down the stairs to the foyer to collect it. I get down there and there is nothing there.

After about 30 minutes, I just wanted to give the driver some time just in case they were lost, etc. This is the email response we received from Uber Eats when we contacted them via the app to explain this situation.

Order never arrived

Sorry to hear that you did not receive your order on this occasion, Maxine.

Looking at the details of the order, it appears that the delivery person arrived at the delivery location on time, attempted to call you, messaged you and waited for five minutes. That’s why you were charged for this order.

While we understand that you would like to get a refund, we are unable to issue one at this time as the delivery person has made a considerable effort to contact you about your order. We will take your feedback on board as we review our process regularly to improve your experience

To prevent issues like this in the future, making sure the correct contact number is associated with your account and having your phone near you while our order is ongoing may help.

It’s also a great idea to add delivery instructions to your order. Simple notes such as “My apartment number is…”, or “Leave the item at reception”, can help us ensure your order is delivered.

Our system investigated this issue and resolved as per our policy.

As you can see by their response, we are not going to get a credit and we still haven’t received our order.

As per this comment:

Our order does have our mobile number on it also with the comment “Please leave in the foyer.”

What I would like to know is where have my groceries gone? Did the driver keep them? Were they taken back to the Spud Shed? What has happened to them? I haven’t received a credit and I haven’t received my order.

Has anyone else had any similar issues with Uber or Uber Eats? I have started using Doordash now and will see how they go.
