Heading To Windsor – UK

We took a 7-hour flight from Dubai to Heathrow Terminal 3 in London. The flight wasn’t too bad; there weren’t many bumps. Meeting a young woman who’d been seated next to us was one of the flight’s highlights. She was a Pom but lived and practised medicine in Dubai. She was returning home to see her family. We had some wonderful conversations. This made the flight go fast.

After finding our cases, we headed to Terminal 5, where we caught the number 8 bus to Windsor. It took about an hour to get to our hotel in Windsor. By this time, it was about 9:30pm, but because it is summer in the UK, it was still light. We checked into our room and went for a bit of a wander. It was June 17th, 2022, and the UK had had a heatwave during the day. It got to 31 degrees, a great evening for a couple of pints before bed.

We stayed at the Castle Hotel in Windsor. What a great location! Windsor Castle was just 100m up the road. Harry’s pub was straight across the road. They do the best beef and ale pies I have ever tasted.

Check out a couple of photos from around Windsor.

On the second day in Windsor, we were privileged to see the “Changing Of The Guards” at Windsor Castle. I got a short video of it, check it out below.

Not long after the changing of the guards, a few of the royals were heading to the Royal Ascot Races. Here is a video of the horses and carriages.

Windsor Castle Tour

What an experience it is to be able to stroll around Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth was actually there in the castle while we were there. We didn’t see her and she was in a totally separate part of the castle, but she was still there.

If you are ever in the UK, I would recommend spending a few days in Windsor. The town is very nice, and the castle is well worth going to. You can’t take photos inside the castle, but you are free to take as many as you like within the grounds. Here are a few photos I took while we spent the day wandering around.

Check out the second photo, yes that is the Royal Standard flying, meaning the Queen is in residence.

While we were wandering around the castle, we did see a few royals and some of their family and friends. They were heading to the Royal Ascot races. We did see Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Princess Beatrice.

One of the horses (probably one in the video I took) got spooked while Princess Beatrice was in the carriage. It was all over the news while we were there.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about our trip so far. Next we will be off the Norwich.
