The Dubai Part of Our Trip

Andrew Hansen - Atlantis at Night

On the 11th June at 10:40pm we departed Perth on the 11 hour flight to Dubai. This was the first leg of our UK adventure.

We arrived in Dubai at around 6:30am on 12th June. We caught a taxi to the Atlantis, The Palm. The hotel we are staying at for the next 5 days. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived so we went for a wander. Here are a few photos of the hotel.

After a few hours of exploring what the hotel has to offer, we had breakfast at “Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen and Bar”. We then found a little tea lounge, we had a cup of tea and a scone.

We finally checked into our room. The room was a nice size and had views out over the ocean.

After a couple of hours rest and freshen up as we had been flying all night with not much sleep. We checked out the aquarium. This is an amazing part of the hotel.

The Aquarium

Check out this video I got of the shark.

I took a few photos of the aquarium, check out these.

One of the reasons we wanted to stay at Atlantis, The Palm is the waterpark. It has one of if not the best waterparks in the world.

We spent 3 of our 5 days in the waterpark, if you are a guest at the hotel you get free daily access to this amazing park.

The Waterpark

Check out this short video of a small part of the waterpark. This will just give you a glimpse of what it’s like.

Video of the WaterPark

During June the weather in Dubai was hot, in the low 40’s so the waterpark is a fantastic place to be. There is plenty to do and It’s ideal for both kids and adults.

Here are a few photos from within the waterpark.

Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa

As well as having the worlds biggest and best waterpark. Dubai has the worlds biggest shopping mall (Dubai Mall) and the worlds tallest building being the Burj Khalifa.

The Dubai Mall is 12 million sq ft, the mall’s total area is equivalent in size to 200 soccer pitches. With a total internal floor area of 5.9 million sq ft, The Dubai Mall has 3.77 million sq ft of gross leasable space and over 1,200 retail stores, two anchor department stores and more than 200 food and beverage outlets.

Some facts about the Burj Khalifa.

World Records

At over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 stories, Burj Khalifa holds the following records:

  • Tallest building in the world
  • Tallest free-standing structure in the world
  • Highest number of stories in the world
  • Highest occupied floor in the world
  • Highest outdoor observation deck in the world
  • Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world
  • Tallest service elevator in the world

We have been to the top of the Burj Khalifa a few years ago last time we were in Dubai so didn’t got up this time.

I did take a video to give you an idea of the size of this building.

I hope you have enjoyed compressed version of our 5 day stay in Dubai on our way to the UK.

I will be putting together some of our highlights of our 2 week adventure to the UK. This will include our 3 days in Windsor, 7 days in Norwich and 4 days in Hemsby.
