Our Long Awaited Return To Bali-Day 2

Andrew Hansen - Main Photo Day 2 Bali

Day 2

After a great sleep in the luxurious resort, our second day in paradise begins at 8:30 am. We had breakfast at the resort restaurant, a great cup of coffee (a flat white for me). Bali has come a long way in the skill of making coffee. I remember 30 years ago when I first started coming to Bali. There was only “Bali Coffee” available, and that was like drinking mud. These days you can get any style of coffee, and it tastes great.

Check out the donuts on the wall

The breakfast was excellent, with a large selection of food. There is even a doughnut wall. I couldn’t resist taking a photo.

But for me, there won’t be any doughnuts, I had the good old American breakfast, bacon, sausage and baked beans followed with some local fruits. So nothing to extravagant for me.

Time for a Massage

Foot massage for me

You can’t come to Bali and not have a massage or two a day. Well, that’s what they say anyway. I’m not a big fan of being rubbed up by a stranger. Maxine loves them. So while she’s getting her massage, I settle for a foot massage for an hour.

Seminyak here we come

After the massage, it was time to head to Seminyak to a place called “Blow Bar” this is a hairdresser with a bar so you can buy drinks at the bar and get your hair cut. I know we have similar places in Perth, but this place is excellent. You can go there and enjoy a drink.

Blow Bar in Seminyak Bali

After a couple of ice-cold Bintangs, it’s time for me to get my hair cut. Nothing fancy for me. I have been getting the same style for 20 years, number 2 on the sides and back and a trim on top, so they can’t do too much damage to that. As the saying goes, there is only a week between a good and a bad haircut anyway. By the way, I got a good haircut. Or it looked good to me anyway.

Look who we ran into at the Blow Bar, fresh out of “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here”.

Cosentino the great Illusionist

If you don’t recognise him, it is Cosentino. He is a famous illusionist in Australia. I think he has had shows in Las Vegas as well. He has just been in the South African jungle on the TV show “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here” Sorry the photo isn’t the best of my wife. She always closes her eye’s just as the picture takes.

What a great bloke Cosentino is. I went up to him and asked for a photo with my wife as he is one of her favourite celebrities. We chatted for about 30 minutes. It was like we were long time best mates. It is great to see these famous people are not stuck up and have the time to have a chat with their fans.

From the “Blow Bar,” it was time for some lunch, so where better to go than to the W Resort.

Driveway into the W Resort

The W Resort is just a quick taxi ride from the Blow Bar, so we headed there for lunch. W Resort is one of our favourite places in Bali, we have never stayed here, but we come and have lunch and sit around their pool every time we come to Bali. One day we will get to stay there.

Pillow display in the foyer of W Resort

Maxine is lying on the pillow display in the foyer of the W Resort. She had a hard time getting out of there.

Kale salad

W Resort always has excellent food, a great outdoor restaurant and fantastic service.

I’m not vegan, vegetarian or anything like that, but I enjoy all types of food. For lunch, I had the Super Kale Salad and let me tell you. It was delicious. Maxine had the Nasi Goreng, a traditional Indonesian meal with fried rice, fried egg and chicken skewers in peanut sauce. You can’t go wrong with Nasi Goreng. No matter where you go to eat, it is always a great meal.

No Bintang this time for lunch. I had a couple of ginger ales, sat on the lounge for a few hours just relaxing, and watched the world go by, thinking this was the life for me. One PowerBall, as they say.

Time to head back to The Stones for a swim and get ready to head out for dinner. Maxine was exhausted and fell asleep in the taxi on the way home.

Life is tough in Bali

After all that eating, it was time for Maxine’s afternoon nap. We are heading back into Legian to our hotel for a swim and relax around the pool.

The pool area at “The Stones” is fantastic. There are pool beds in the pool, and there is a great kid pool. There are also hammocks hanging between coconut trees so you can have a sleep and relax.

That is a quick summary of day 2 of our trip to Bali. Stay tuned for day three tomorrow, not sure it will be as full-on as today, but I will see what the day brings. If you missed day 1, click here and have a read. Please leave your comments. I would love to hear your feedback, good, bad or otherwise. I don’t mind. Any comment will help me become better.
